And so it arrives ...

Today, Wednesday 8 December 2010, the term postdemocracy arrived in my world, officially.

First, Julian Assange of WikiLeaks.org is arrested and refused bail supposedly because he is a sexual predator but EVERYONE KNOWS IT'S REALLY BECAUSE THE WORLD IS SHITTING ITSELF THAT THEIR PRECIOUS LIES ARE GONNA GET EXPOSED !!!!! (Since when does any judge/government care if a woman argues that a man refused to wear a condom????)

Second, Hito Steyerl writes this brilliant account, kind of summing up exactly how I feel about, like, everything (but especially 'art'): e-flux.com/journal/view/181

Ha!

  1. keep going eleanor and photographing - liked the papermill one and yes postdemocracy - I will read with interest - but for sure the arrest of assange reveals - if we didnt already know - that the world is run by corporate/political interests which are completely undemocratic and well down the path to totalitarianism

  2. the internet taken to it's logical extent...the total subsumption of the news-media...the refraction from 'media' and into 'terrorist' group...the demonstration of radical dissemination and the disturbingly naive response, which in itself is only further testament to what has now been firmly-established as a new relation to information...information is no longer sacrosanct, secrecy no longer privileged in quite the same way...the 'dialogue'/exchange between both sides (those provoking and those provoked) are nearly equal in force and still ever-growing...and yes, the terms are changing, and it's all about to happen very quickly...it's all far too exciting and special to be receiving such a lukewarm worldwide response...this is indeed a fascinating time to be alive...the only hope remains that, as we move on (can we move on?), we won't find ourselves living in even opaquer times...(i know i'm probably not the only one sort of hoping that assange releases the 'insurance' file key...)
